| Synod 2004 Synod 2004, a time of change... The third annual synod of the Free Episcopal Church was convened in Glen Ellyn IL on 8 October 2004 by the Presiding Bishop, Right Reverend Rob Angus Jones. The primary business of this synod was to consecrate Vicar Sherrie Albrecht as the Second Presiding Bishop of the Free Episcopal Church. The synod was a time of fun and fellowship as well as a time for the renewing of our souls. In addition to the clergy and friends of the Free Episcopal Church, we were blessed with the presence of the Most Reverend Sharon Hart (The Contemporary Catholic Church) and the Right Reverend William “Rusty” Clyma III (The New Church-Inclusive Anglican Reform). New friendships were formed, and “old friends” took time to enjoy one another’s company again. The Saturday workshop addressed questions regarding the FEC’s formation process, particularly the application and discernment sections. The collective wisdom of three presiding bishops gave new insights and ideas for those who will guide candidates through the process and training program and into ministry positions. On Saturday evening, guests from seven states gathered to witness the ordination of Vicar Sherrie Albrecht to the episcopacy. Bishop Jones was the chief consecrator. Bishops Hart and Clyma assisted as co-consecrators. Bishop Jones then passed the crosier of the presiding bishop to Bishop Albrecht, installing her as the Second Presiding Bishop of the Free Episcopal Church. Sunday morning synod participants worshipped with the congregation of St. Thomas United Methodist Church (Glen Ellyn IL) who has been our gracious host for the last three years. We thank the people of STUMC along with their pastor, Reverend Diana Facemyer, for their friendship and support. The final working session addressed the intricacies of incorporating the Free Episcopal Church in Illinois and moving church headquarters from California to Illinois. The FEC’s 501(c)3 status will remain valid through these changes. As Bishop Jones takes leave of active leadership in the Free Episcopal Church, we want him to know that he will be sorely missed. We wish him Godspeed in his new endeavor and will continue to value his friendship and advice in the future.
