About Presiding Bishop Sherrie Albrecht

Sherrie Albrecht is the current Presiding Bishop of The Free Episcopal Church and also the vicar of Grace Mission, an outreach of the Free Episcopal Church in Glen Ellyn IL, one of the western suburbs of Chicago.

Sherrie began her spiritual walk in the Congregational and Methodist Churches.  In her early twenties, she was drawn to sacramental and liturgical worship and converted to Roman Catholicism.  She later found a permanent home in the Anglican tradition.

Reverend Albrecht holds an A.A.S. from the College of DuPage in Geography/Travel and Tourism.  She earned a B.A. in Applied Behavioral Science from National-Louis University in 1996.  She completed chaplaincy training at Bishop Anderson House (ECUSA), Chicago IL in 1998 and was certified and commissioned a parish chaplain the same year.  Sherrie completed the formation process for the FEC (reading for orders) and was ordained deacon, priest, and bishop by the Convening Bishop, Rt. Rev. Rob Angus Jones.

Sherrie’s primary focus is the ministry of healing.  The Great Commission calls all believers to “preach, baptize, and heal.”  While the Church regularly fulfills its call to preach and baptize, the ministry of healing seems to be sorely neglected.  Every believer should be encouraged to be an agent of healing and restoration in a hurting world.  Whether actively visiting the ill and infirm and praying for healing or practicing the ministry of presence, Sherrie’s goal is to empower and equip every believer to participate in the ministry of healing.

Reverend Albrecht serves as the chaplain for the Guardian Angel Basset    Rescue, an organization that rescues abandoned and neglected basset hounds and places them in loving “forever homes.”   She is also an award-winning photographer.

The bishop, who is a native of the Chicagoland area, has been married to Roger Kim since 1976.  They have made their home in Wheaton IL since 1977 where they currently live with their “basset children,” Jake and Betsy.  They have one daughter, Janet, who also lives and works in the Chicago area.
